On one hand, where the Galaxy Z Flip 3 gets a major design overhaul with a large cover display, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 now gets an under-display camera on the inside display. Along with this, Samsung has tweaked the software experience a lot for both the foldable, especially the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Importantly, now the Galaxy Z Fold 3 uses the tablet version of Android apps. The benefits of this are now, the optimized apps make use of the entire display instead of wasting the screen real estate. This was one of the major concerns for previous-gen Galaxy Fold users. Apparently, most Android apps don’t take the advantage of the extended screen space in older Galaxy Fold devices. However, with the new Galaxy Z Fold 3’s software optimization, most apps will run their tablet version on the device.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with an upped DPI of 673, compared to 589 on the Fold 2

To achieve this feat, Samsung upped the DPI of the newly launched Fold 3 to 673. This is a major increase as compared to 589 on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This cranked DPI allows the apps to take better advantage of the available screen space. As per 9To5Google, these changes aren’t anything major in most apps. It only makes touchpoints of some apps smaller, adding more text on the screen. Interestingly, there is still a wide range of apps such as Google Chrome, Spotify, Gmail, YouTube, that also add a sidebar navigation panel. YouTube shows smaller thumbnails, with subscribed channels on the sidebar. Google Chrome now opens pages in a desktop-like tab, filling in more content. There are other apps including Samsung Phone, Messages app, Settings app, etc. that takes advantage of the new software optimization by Samsung. This is something really nice that Samsung has taken into account the feedback of users on their previous fold devices and brought improvements over them. Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with an upgraded 6.2-inch 120Hz HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display at the front and a 7.6-inch 120Hz QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED display on the inside, which the company calls “Infinity Flex” display. Other updates include the Snapdragon 888 processor coupled with 12GB of RAM. Samsung has also ditched the Galaxy S21 camera module design and opted for a newly designed camera module on the back.
