This upcoming test follows a closed beta that players were able to participate in back in late July. And after the test concluded and the team received feedback, it’s once again gearing up to let players back in. There’s currently no mention of what will be different between the closed beta and the open beta. But there will be patch notes that talk about these details available on the New World forums. Presumably closer to or during the open beta’s availability.

The New World open beta begins on September 9

Those wanting to take part in the test will be able to start playing on September 9 at 7PM PST. When the beta goes live. The test will last for three days and complete on September 12 at 11:59PM PST. But interested players can actually request access to the open beta on September 8. Anyone participating in the beta will be allowed to stream and share content and experiences. So there’s no lockout on sharing your thoughts or streaming it for viewers. Progress from the open beta will not carry over to the main game. So go in knowing that anything you do and anything you acquire for your character will be wiped out before the game officially releases later in the month. Players that were lucky enough to catch the Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast for the game earlier this morning also had the chance to score some loot. The Verdant Trapper apparel skin. To get this though you would have had to catch the stream between 11AM PST and 1PM PST today, August 25.

The open beta will have a higher server capacity, which means more players

The closed beta allowed a fair amount of players in. But the open beta will allow even more. Featuring a higher server capacity to help test the server infrastructure of New World. Those interested in playing the open beta will need to request access through the Steam Playtest Tool. Which can be found on the New World Steam page.
