New gestures are always welcomed, especially if they boost our productivity. Well, with Android 13, you’ll not only get a new way to open notifications in split-screen mode, but also a gesture for launching multiple instances of the same activity (app) in split-screen.

Android 13 is coming with more split-screen gestures

So, once a notification arrives, you’ll be able to long-press on it, and drag it to enter split-screen mode. That will make multitasking even more powerful, of course. You’ll be ready to jump straight into split-screen mode upon notification’s arrival. This feature is included in a beta release for Android 12L a while back, but it was never fully enabled. It is back in the second developer preview for Android 13, at it seems to be available straight away. Mishaal Rahman does not that the feature is still buggy, though. This is just one of many improvements that Android 13 will bring to the table. Android 13 will have plenty of improvements for large-screen devices, it would seem. Android 13 Developer Preview 2 includes runtime permissions for app notifications, MIDI 2.0, Bluetooth LE Audio, and many other changes.

Various other Android 13 features surfaced recently

It was also recently reported that Android 13 will allow developers to disable app preview in multitasking. On top of that, Android 13 will add DNS over HTTPS feature, and may bring forth spatial audio with head tracking. Those of you who are into gaming will be glad to know that Android 13 is looking to improve that as well. It aims to cut game loading times by quite a bit, so you’ll be able to jump into game mode quicker. Those are only some of the upcoming changes. Android 13 won’t be a major redesign of Android, but it will bring quite a few functional changes to the table, it seems.
