Right now, Dynamic Color does a good job at capturing the main colors in your wallpaper and crafting a system theme from them. The only issue is that it’s not quite as intuitive as most people would like. When you assign a wallpaper, you get four options for your theme. However, people would really like to have more color options to better customize their phones.
Android 13 will introduce more Dynamic Color options
Now, it seems like those users’ prayers will be answered. 9To5Google’s Dylan Roussel was able to dig into the system’s code and find some interesting options. It’s clear that Android 13 is going to finish what Android 12 started and grant more control over the Dynamic Color feature. Roussel was able to find additional color schemes for the system to use. As stated before, there are four options to choose from now. Android 13 will introduce six more color schemes: Tonal Spot, Spritz, Vibrant, Expressive, Rainbow, and Fruit Salad. Each of the color schemes will have a different selection of colors to choose from when matching your wallpaper. For instance, Spritz will use more muted colors, whereas Vibrant and Expressive will use more saturated colors. These are still a far cry from having ultimate control over your phone’s theme, but Google is going in the right direction.
The Android13 developer preview is now out!
There are a ton of new features and changes coming with the Android 13 developer preview 2, so if you’re eager (and brave) enough, it’s available to flash onto your Pixel device. You’ll be able to see features like the new Dynamic Colors, the revamped media player, the clipboard editor, and more. If you want to flash the DP2 to your device, you’ll be able to download it from Google. Just know that you’ll need to have an unlocked bootloader to do this. Also, just know that flashing the preview takes some technical know-how. If you’re not familiar with the process, you might want to wait for the beta. If you manage to flash the preview onto your device, just know that it will be VERY buggy and unstable. You shouldn’t flash the software onto your main devices, as it could be unusable.
