Smartphones have become an inseparable part of our lives, and we carry them almost everywhere, even on the toilet. There are several ways to protect the device from shock, for example, buying a suitable case or using shockproof screen protectors. But sometimes, damage to the device is unavoidable. According to a report by Comparemymobile, Android owners usually expose their devices to fewer risks. This center has analyzed tweets of the last 12 months with keywords such as “broke,” “smashed,” “cracked,” “dropped,” etc.

iPhone owners are clumsier

The results reveal interesting facts about Android and iOS owners. Comparemymobile reports that most of the analyzed tweets that complain about a broken phone are sent from iPhone owners. Additionally, 2.1% of iPhone owners reported dropping their phone on their own head compared to 0.9% of Android owners. The probability of dropping a phone in the toilet for iPhone owners is 2.4%, while the percentage for Android owners sit at 1.3%. However, Android owners are 1.8% more likely to drop their devices in the water. They mostly use rice to dry the phone. It’s also interesting to know which cities are more clumsy. As per the report, Rio de Janeiro, New York, and Las Vegas are the top three clumsiest cities in the world. Las Vegas phone owners usually drop their phone on the group, while Los Angeles-based owners are more likely to drop their phone on the head or face. Also, Glasgow is the least clumsy city, with only 6.3 accidents per 100,000 people. However, they’re more likely to drop their phone in the water. Comparemymobile says they removed tweets that contained words like “call” or “signal,” i.e., to ensure that tweets were as accurate as possible to only find tweets that refer to a physical accident. This study is conducted between August 2021 and August 2022.
