The new security update for the Galaxy A71 5G is rolling out with firmware version A716BXXU6DVD5. According to Samsung’s official changelog, this update brings some stability improvements and the April SMR (security maintenance release) to the device. There aren’t any new features in tow though. However, having recently received the Android 12 update with the Korean brand’s One UI custom software, which brought tons of new features and enhancements, it’s understandable why the Galaxy A71 5G isn’t getting any notable user-facing changes with the latest update. But as far as the content of the new SMR is concerned, we have a lot to talk about. This month’s security patch fixes more than 80 vulnerabilities. Among them is the fix for the Dirty Pipe vulnerability that affected the Galaxy S22 series. It allowed attackers to gain system-level access to your device remotely and gain full control of it. The April SMR also contains patches for several SVEs (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures), which are Samsung-exclusive security flaws. All of these fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy A71 5G. If you’re using this mid-range smartphone in the UAE, you should be receiving a new update in the coming days if you haven’t already received it. Users in other regions should also pick up the new SMR soon. Your phone will notify you of the OTA (over the air) rollout once available. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Simply navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install to see if an OTA update is pending download.

Galaxy A71 5G will get the Android 13 update too

Samsung launched the Galaxy A71 5G in early 2020 with Android 10 on board. It received the Android 11 update last year, complete with One UI 3.1. The device recently picked up the Android 12-based One UI 4.1 as well. And as per Samsung’s software support policy, it is eligible for one more Android OS update, i.e. Android 13. The update may not arrive until next year though. The new Android version is currently in developer preview. Samsung will reportedly begin beta testing Android 13 for its devices publicly in July. Flagship devices will get the update first. We will keep you posted.
