Bill Gates didn’t talk about the company’s own Surface Duo 2 smartphone

“I have an Android Galaxy Z Fold3. I try different ones. With this screen, I can get by with a great portable PC and the phone and nothing else,” Gates said on Reddit (via Android Authority). Many would have presumed that Bill Gates would be using the Surface Duo 2 smartphone. But it’s likely the executive rotates through multiple phones to get a sense of the competition. The relationship between Microsoft and Samsung may also be a factor in the former CEO’s choice. A few Microsoft apps are pre-loaded on Galaxy devices, as part of a partnership between the two corporations. Moreover, Galaxy devices enjoy some exclusive features on the “Your Phone” service. This service allows users to seamlessly transfer content between Windows and Android devices. Last year, Microsoft also introduced new versions of Office, Outlook, and Teams optimized for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. Bill Gates didn’t talk much about Android or Microsoft’s foldables during the AMA. But the former Microsoft chairman addressed quite a few other questions from users on topics like charitable work, climate change, and even cryptocurrency. “I don’t own any. I like investing in things that have valuable output,” Gates said about Bitcoin.

Samsung may unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in September this year

Mr. Gates may have to consider an upgrade in just a few months, as Samsung will officially launch the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 sometime in September. The timeline aligns with the annual IFA event in Berlin, though the event’s itinerary currently doesn’t feature Samsung’s name. Leaks have already started to pour in for Samsung’s next duo of foldables. We know that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will feature a squarer design thanks to leaked CAD renders. This appears to be a common theme this year as Samsung made the same design adjustments with the Galaxy S22. We’ve also learned that the rear camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will take cues from the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s cameras.
