Activision says the game will launch around the same time as Modern Warfare II. Which launches on October 28. However, it won’t necessarily be launching at the exact same time. Instead, it’ll be released sometime between Modern Warfare II and the end of the year. Activision will no doubt want to capitalize on the holiday crowd though.

Warzone 2.0 will not share progress with Warzone

There’s still a lot that’s unknown about the new Warzone experience. Activision did offer up some new details though. The biggest change is that it will operate separately from the current Warzone experience that you can play today. This is because it leverages the content and systems that will be used in Modern Warfare II. Which are also new to the franchise. This includes Modern Warfare II inventories, and brand-new progression. However, Activision isn’t taking away the current Warzone. Players will still be able to dive into it and progress further. As Activision confirms it will still operate on its own within its own contained system. Activision says that it will have continued player progression and experiences within that space. So if you prefer the current Warzone once you’ve had the chance to try the new one, you can stick with what you know best. The new Warzone will come with “new technology, new features, and new gameplay” which Activision says will “work seamlessly” with Modern Warfare II.

The franchise will now use one unified engine

Outside of Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare II, Activision is also planning to launch a brand-new mobile Warzone experience. That game is currently in development and has no confirmed release date. But it will utilize the same engine powering this year’s upcoming titles. The goal being to have one unified engine for the franchise. Activision also confirms that Call Of Duty is coming back to Steam with Modern Warfare II. Which means you’ll no longer be required to use BattleNet if this is the only game you play. That is unless you want to. If you’ve yet to see the worldwide reveal trailer, you can watch it above. And then check out the official blog post for full details.
