The availability of the latest SMR (security maintenance release) for these devices varies though. The Galaxy S10 5G is picking up the new update in several European countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and the Nordic region, SamMobile reports. The same update for the Galaxy S10 Lite, meanwhile, is currently rolling out to users in Russia and Spain. However, it goes without saying that Samsung will soon release this month’s security patch to the two phones in other regions as well. The other three Galaxy S10 models — Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+ — picked up the new SMR a couple of weeks ago. Samsung has already detailed the content of this month’s security update. We have more than 60 vulnerability fixes here. The majority of them are from Google, i.e. the vulnerabilities were found in Android OS. However, there are quite a few Samsung-specific items as well. These vulnerabilities were found in the Korean brand’s custom Android skin One UI. A handful of those fixes were critical ones, the company explained. These could cause serious damages to users if exploited in the wild. All these vulnerability fixes are coming your way if you’re rocking either of Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy S10 Lite. As always, you will be notified of the update once the OTA (over the air) release hits your phone. But you can also manually check for it from the Settings app. Simply navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install to see if an OTA update is pending download.

Galaxy S10 5G will only receive security updates going forward

The Galaxy S10 5G, which arrived as the world’s first 5G-ready smartphone in early 2019, is reaching the end of its life. It has completed almost three years in the market and has also received three major Android OS updates in the interim. Launched with Android 9 Pie onboard, it has received updates to Android 10, Android 11, and Android 12. Going forward, the device will only receive security updates, at least for one more year. The same applies to the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ as well. The Galaxy S10 Lite, meanwhile, debuted a year later and ran Android 10 out of the box. It has received Android 11 and Android 12 updates over the past two years. The device is eligible for one more major Android OS update, i.e. Android 13.
