The US variant of the Galaxy S10 Lite is getting the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) about three weeks after the international versions. Even though the build number for the new software package suggests it contains more than just the vulnerability fixes for last month, Samsung’s official changelog for this release doesn’t mention anything. It contains the generic pointers that an update may include device stability improvements, performance improvements, new and/or enhanced features, and bug fixes. While the update may not contain any new features or user-facing changes, there are plenty of vulnerability patches to talk about in the September SMR. Samsung’s security bulletin mentions more than 50 patches, including two dozen Android OS issues. The company also patched nearly 30 issues that were specific to its Android-powered smartphones and tablets. If you’re using the Galaxy S10 Lite in the US, these vulnerability patches are now rolling out to you. As always, the update will reach your phone over the air (OTA), and will be notified of it once available. You can tap on the notification and follow the on-screen instructions to download the update. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update section and tap on Download and install. If there’s no update available, check back again a few days later.
Galaxy S10 Lite will get the Android 13 update
Launched in January 2020, the Galaxy S10 Lite arrived with Android 10 onboard. It has since received updates to Android 11 and Android 12. The phone is eligible for one more Android OS update, i. e. Android 13, which will bring Samsung’s One UI 5.0. We expect the big Android update to arrive before the end of this year or early next year. The company has yet to begin the stable rollout. It is still beta testing the software. Note that the regular Galaxy S10 models will not receive the Android 13 update. The Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ arrived almost a year before the Galaxy S10 Lite and run Android 9 Pie out of the box. They have already picked up three major Android OS updates. These phones will only get security updates going forward, at least until the first half of 2023.
