The latest update for last year’s Samsung foldable is currently rolling out to the carrier-locked model (SM-F916U), SamMobile reports. Specifically, Galaxy Z Fold 2 users on T-Mobile’s network are now receiving this month’s security update. But it should now only be a matter of time before the rollout expands to the unlocked models of the foldable. The new firmware version is F916USQS2EUI3, though it may vary slightly depending on your network carrier. The October SMR isn’t likely to bring any new features to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The 2020 foldable recently received the One UI 3.1.1 update with a bunch of new features that significantly improve its usability and functionality. The next big feature update should be the Android 12-based One UI 4.0. It will likely arrive early next year, or maybe even sooner. As far as vulnerability fixes are concerned, this month’s SMR contains plenty of them. Samsung earlier this month confirmed that the October security update patches well over 60 issues found in Google’s version of the Android OS as well as the Korean firm’s custom skin, i.e. One UI. The company labeled nine of them to be issues of critical severity.
October security update reaches the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the US
Samsung began rolling out the October security update to its Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the last week of September. The Galaxy S21 series picked up the new update first, starting in South Korea. The rollouts soon reached units in the US and have since hit numerous Galaxy devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest of them. If you’re a Galaxy Z Fold 2 user on T-Mobile’s network, you should soon receive the latest update, if you haven’t already, with all these vulnerability fixes. Users on other networks can also be on the lookout for this update in the coming days. And when it comes to updating your Galaxy phone, you probably already know the drill. You should receive a notification about the OTA (over the air) update once it becomes available for your phone. You can also manually check for updates by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. If there’s an OTA update available, you will be prompted to download it on the next screen.
