The company introduced Material You to the masses last year during Google I/O. Since unveiling Android 12, the company has revamped all of its first-party apps with the new look. Now, apps like Gmail, Calculator, Keep, etc. can be themed along with the rest of the software.

Now, Gmail for desktop has the Material You design

Earlier in the year, Google announced that it was going to drastically change up the look for the Gmail web client. Not only would it get the obligatory Material You make over, but it was also going to move some stuff around. Right now, there’s a panel on the left of the screen that houses your different email folders and your chats below it. With the new look, there will be an additional side panel beside that one. This additional panel will house your chats. It will also have buttons for your Spaces and for Google Meet. When you click on one of these buttons, the respective application will fill the screen. So, instead of having your Google Chats compressed on a small panel, you’ll be able to have the full application. There’s also a button to return to your emails. Now, that first side panel that houses your email folders will be less cluttered. Your folders and labels will extend all the way down the screen. Other changes will include changes to the UI. Since we’re talking about Material You, you’ll see a color scheme applied to the interface. Not only that but the Compose button will be turned into a rounded rectangle. Google will also make a change to the search filter feature. There will be a new button on the top right of the email view. When you click it, you’ll see a row of search chips appear that you can use. This change is coming out to more people now, so you should be able to see it eventually.
