To find this new 8-hour option, users have to open the ‘Wi-Fi’ section, tap ‘Set Priority Device’, and pick their device. The addition of this new time increment allows users to manage the WiFi priority for a prolonged period of time without having to manually extend it every few hours. This could also be a handy feature if you’re downloading larger files. 9to5Google notes that this new addition is part of the Google Home 2.45 update. It is currently available for Android and iOS devices. Barring this one big addition, the new update doesn’t come with any noticeable changes.
The Google Home app could soon get a Material You redesign
It’s quite surprising that Google is yet to update the Google Home app with Material You elements. Given that Android 12 is now live for Pixel devices, we think a redesign is just around the corner. The app should see the addition of Dynamic Color and changes in line with other Google apps.
Speaking of Android 12, Google began the update rollout for the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, and the Pixel 5a. Coming from Android 11, this update introduces a bevy of new changes, including Material You. The update also brings a handful of security and privacy-related additions to the table. It’s worth noting that this is possibly the last major OS update for phones like the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3a series. Google promises three years of software updates for a new device, which explains why the 2017 Pixel 2 series was left out of the update program. As for non-Pixel devices, the rollout will depend on individual OEMs. Samsung appears to be progressing quite well with its Android 12 + One UI 4.0 beta. If everything goes as expected, an update should be ready by the end of the year. Phones like the Galaxy S21, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will likely be the first to get the Android 12 update.
