Google had already mentioned that YouTube would be coming to Android Automotive in the future, but now we’re hearing that more apps like EPIX NOW and Tubi TV are on the way too. This announcement also means that there will be better browsing of video content on the Android Automotive screen in the car. Google has said that it should also make it easier for developers to make apps for Android Automotive thanks to the new tools that help translate tablet-sized apps to parked car experiences.
Chromecast will be a game-changer
Being able to Cast apps from your mobile phone to your car is going to be a game-changer. You see, most Android Automotive vehicles are electric vehicles. Which means you’re going to be spending some time charging it, though hopefully you can charge at home and that won’t be an issue. But if you’re on a road trip and need to charge, well you’re going to be stuck in the car. Now, you’ll be able to cast YouTube, Hulu, Netflix or really anything with Chromecast support onto your cars display, instead of holding up your phone for an hour or so. The number of cars with Android Automotive is pretty small right now, but that will change in the future. Most notably we have the Volvo XC40 series, C40 Recharge, Polestar 2, GMC Hummer EV and soon we’ll have a number of Ford vehicles starting with the F-150 Lightning.
