The Play Store shows you the minimum OS requirements for the app you’re viewing
A lot of us have older phones that we want to get more use out of. Thus, we sometimes download modern apps on them. One thing we worry about is whether the older operating system is still able to run newer apps. Now, you can know this before you download them. On the bottom of the screen in the “About This App” section, you’ll see tons of useful information. You’ll see things like in-app purchases, size, and last update date. Now, Google added a new “Android OS” section that will tell you the minimum OS requirements your phone needs to meet. Most apps remain supported on some pretty old operating systems. For example, Genshin Impact is a modern hit, but devices running versions as old as 5.0 Lollipop can still download it ( actually running that game will be a different story).
To see this, you’ll need the latest version of the Play Store
This is a neat addition to the Play Store, and it’s included in the latest version of the app. I was able to see the Android OS section using the app on my Pixel 6, and I’m currently running version 29.2.13-21. This is definitely a newer version because people running versions as new at 28 can’t see this option. This is a silent release, so if you don’t see it, then you will have to wait for it to reach your device. You can always check the version of the Play Store app you have by holding down on the app, tapping the “App Info” option, and scrolling down to the bottom.
