As you can see, users don’t have a middle option between the 2TB and 10TB plans. So, people who need a little more than 2TB of cloud storage had to upgrade to the 10TB plan that costs five times more. Well, not anymore. There’s now a middle ground as Google One has just added (via) a 5TB tier. The new plan costs $24.99 per month or $249.99 for a full-year subscription up-front. The 5TB Google One tier comes with the same additional benefits as the 2TB and 10TB tiers. Most notably, you get free access to a VPN (virtual private network) service for Android phones. Other benefits include 10 percent back on Google Store purchases (as store credit), fast access to Google experts, and the ability to add your family members to the plan.
This 5TB Google One subscription plan is now widely available
Google offers 15GB of free cloud storage with all Google accounts. The storage is shared across all Google products, including Gmail, Drive, and Photos. Well, Photos storage earlier did not count against the 15GB of free storage. You could store an unlimited amount of photos and videos in the cloud. But as of June this year, Google stopped being so generous (except for users of the Pixel 5 or older Pixel devices who still get unlimited Photos storage). As such, users who have a lot of photos or videos in the cloud are now having to subscribe to a Google One plan that suits their needs or take those files somewhere else. The company knows that and is looking to offer multiple choices to users. You might remember a recent report about Google One adding a 500GB plan for $4.99 per month. This plan is said to be exclusive to T-Mobile subscribers. But it would slot in perfectly between the 200GB and 2TB plans that are available to all. Like the new 5TB plan, a 500GB plan would provide a nice middle-ground to users who need a little more than 200GB. We will let you know if this subscription tier also comes to other users.
