The update to Cinematic photos adds new animations that leverage machine learning to produce a 3D rendering of a still image. Google says this allows users to enjoy their photos “in a more vivid way.” “Machine learning fills in parts of the background behind the subject, allowing the virtual camera to move more freely as it finds the best framing to bring attention to your subject — sort of like a movie director for your photos,” Google said about the new update to Cinematic photos (via).
Google recently updated the Photos app with “Event Memories”
The People & Pets widget started rolling out to Android users last week, so it should be widely available by now. It basically lets you choose your favorite people and pets to show them on your homescreen. Tapping the widget will open the Photos app, allowing you to view more images of the people (and pets) you love. Users can also view their Google Photos Memories on the Nest Hub by heading to the “Your day” tab. Google also reminds users of the ability to hide certain people, pets, or time periods from Memories. This feature was already available on Google Photos for a while. Google also rolled out “event Memories” to the Photos app a couple of weeks ago. This brings up curated Memories from recent events like birthdays, anniversaries, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. Of course, users can remove or rename these Memories via the photo grid. The Google Photos app just received a minor update that rearranges the row of options while selecting photos. Instead of the options bar appearing on the top right, the icons now appear on the bottom of the screen. This makes it easier to access options such as share, archive, delete, and others, without having to reach all the way to the top. The combination of these features solidifies Google Photos’ position as one of the best photo storage apps out there.
