Then again, there are a number of handheld devices out there which feature a similar design and appearance. So inspiration could have come from anywhere. The Nintendo Switch being one of those devices. For what it’s worth, a design like this is certainly popular with gamers, if Sony’s PSP and the Switch are any indication.
The Lenovo handheld is called the Legion Play, and it’s powered by Android
According to Liliputing, the Lenovo Legion Play is a gaming handheld powered by Android. The intended function would be to provide gamers on the go with a device for cloud gaming. In one of the leaked images, you can see NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW Android app. The app is accessible from the homescreen alongside apps for a game store, and launcher icons for what appear to be installed games. You can also see app icons for the Play Store, YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Drive, and Chrome. While the physical design looks a lot like a PSP or PS Vita, the UI seems to take some inspiration from the Nintendo Switch.
It has all the buttons you might need
As for hardware, the Legion Play has what looks like two shoulder buttons up top. As well as dual joysticks that are offset diagonally. There’s also a d-pad because, well you always need a d-pad. You’ll also find a home button, a Legion “Y” button, and four action buttons (the ABXY buttons if you prefer). There’s even two additional unknown buttons. It’s not exactly clear what these do. For ports, there’s a USB-C port and a headphone jack on the top. There’s a mic up there as well. Which at the very least suggests that this device is intended to allow for mic input for something. Perhaps for voice chat without a headset or for making voice and video calls. Perhaps both. As for the specs, the pages on Lenovo’s site where the device was discovered state that it has a 7-inch Full HD display. Liliputing notes that the device popped up on Lenovo’s German and Japanese websites. Although it’s not directly displayed there. Instead you need to bring up the source code and search for the device to find images and a few details. The description of the device states that it also supports HDR 10, and it comes with dual stereo speakers, as well as a 7,000mAh battery. It also comes with a vibration feature and should be “coming soon to select markets.” Lenovo hasn’t officially announced this device yet. So there’s no guarantee when it’ll arrive or if the company still plans to release it. Based on the information though, Lenovo had planned to announce this at Mobile World Congress 2021. Which obviously didn’t happen for one reason or another.
