Dates back to November, Jack Dorsey announced that he would step down as Twitter CEO and Agrawal would replace him. Dorsey has been running the company since 2015. As the first move after taking the CEO role, Agrawal replaced Michael Montano and Dantley Davis, chiefs of engineering and design, last month. Now, he wants to shake up the security department. As per the New York Times report, former head of security Peiter Zatko had left the company. Also, chief information security officer Rinki Sethi will depart in the coming weeks. Agrawal told Twitter employees that these decisions were made after “an assessment of how the organization was being led and the impact on top priority work.”
New Twitter CEO is making fundamental changes in the company
In recent years, Twitter has repeatedly struggled with disclosing its users’ information. In 2020, the company even apologized for the business data breach. The new Twitter boss, who is himself a software engineer, seems to have a particular sensitivity to platform security. In November 2020, Twitter hired a famous person in the hackers’ community called Zatko. This happened after hackers compromised the high-profile accounts and asked for Bitcoin. Zatko, who is also known as “Mudge” in the hackers’ community, has worked in DARPA, Google, and Stripe. Twitter’s former chief information security officer Rinki Sethi also joined the company after the 2020 data leak. Now, just after less than two years, she is leaving the company, and Twitter’s head of privacy engineering Lea Kissner will replace her on an interim basis.
Agrawal continue the monetization plans
Another plan that the new head of Twitter has to deal with is to monetize the platform by selling subscriptions. The “Twitter Blue” has recently started in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Twitter Blue is a subscription service that offers users more features like undoing tweets, bookmarks folders, customizable app icons, and reader mode. It costs $2.99 per month, and all users in mentioned countries can activate it. Parag Agrawal has been on Twitter for a while now, and it looks like he intends to make fundamental changes to the company. There will be more changes between Twitter departments in the coming months.
