While OnePlus has only announced the update for the three OnePlus 8 series phones, users on the company’s community forums have confirmed receiving the same update on the OnePlus 9R as well. The new software package for the devices is still based on OxygenOS 12 (Android 12) and comes with build number C.17. According to the official changelog, the phones are getting some software optimizations that will improve the messaging experience. It’s unclear whether the OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, 8T, and the OnePlus 9R have been having major issues with sending and receiving messages. This update may also introduce some other system stability improvements. Perhaps a user says it resolves a “Gmail notification issue” on the OnePlus 9R. There may be more of these bug fixes, on other models too. However, there’s no mention of an updated Android security patch anywhere in the changelog, not for any device. So all four of them are still stuck with the March security patch. It’s disappointing from OnePlus as we are now almost halfway through May. Samsung has been rolling out the May security update for well over two weeks now. Nonetheless, if you’re using any of these OnePlus phones, you should be getting new software anytime now if you haven’t already. The OTA (over the air) release will reach more users incrementally in the coming days. That’s unless the company notices some bugs and suspends the rollout. You can head over to Settings > System > System updates on your phone to manually check for an update.
OnePlus has begun beta testing Android 13 for its phones
Android 13 has reached the public beta stage. Google earlier this week released the second beta build of the new Android version. Coinciding with that release, OnePlus also announced what it calls the Android 13 Developer Preview Program for the OnePlus 10 Pro, which is nothing but an early beta build. In the coming months, we expect OnePlus to open the Android 13 public beta for more of its devices. With the stable release not expected until this fall, there’s still a lot of time for beta testing the new software. We will keep you posted.
