The Galaxy S10 series is picking up the October security update with the firmware version G97xFXXSDFUI5. The same update for the Galaxy S10 5G comes with the firmware version G977BXXSAFUI5. The new software package is unlikely to bring any user-facing changes or new features to the table. But when it comes to vulnerability fixes, there are plenty of them. Samsung earlier this month confirmed that the latest SMR contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities. The majority of them were found in Google’s version of Android OS, with the company labeling at least six of them to be critical issues. Additionally, at least three Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items were also of critical severity. For the uninitiated, SVEs are privacy and security issues exclusive to the Korean firm’s Android-powered devices.
Galaxy S10 series is now receiving the October security update
The Galaxy S10 series arrived running Android 9 Pie in early 2019. The devices have since received two major Android OS updates to Android 10 and Android 11. And thanks to Samsung’s updated software support policy, they will also receive the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update in a few months. Meanwhile, the devices continue to receive security updates monthly even as they are about to complete three years into the market. Anyways, if you’re using any of Samsung’s 2019 Galaxy S flagships in European or Asian countries, you should soon receive a notification about a new OTA (over the air) update if you haven’t already. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone. Simply open the app, scroll down to the Software update menu, and tap on Download and install. If there’s an OTA update available, you’ll be prompted to download it on the next screen. Galaxy S10 series users in other regions should also soon receive the new update.
