Lau said on Weibo (via GizChina) that it is a real challenge to send the new OxygenOS 12/ColorOS 12 update for OnePlus devices that are still running the older Hydrogen OS. Additionally, the CEO assures customers that migration from HydrogenOS to ColorOS 12 will not result in a factory reset of the smartphone. This basically means that users can retain their apps and files after the update. It seems like Lau is referring to Chinese users of OnePlus devices. In case you’re unaware, OnePlus phones in China have completely switched over from HydrogenOS to ColorOS. The company is reportedly working on offering a seamless transition from HydrogenOS to the new software. The HydrogenOS software team is now working with the ColorOS team at OnePlus to make this happen.

OxygenOS 12/ColorOS 12 is now rolling out to the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro in some regions

Lau said the team is working on making the new software a lot smoother and faster with subsequent updates. The new and revamped version of this software will reportedly debut on the OnePlus 10 Pro next month. The ColorOS 12 stable build is currently making its way to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro in China. Meanwhile, OnePlus 9R customers can try out the new update from the company’s Open Beta program. OnePlus’ decision to merge with ColorOS is massively unpopular among fans and customers. However, the company is unlikely to change course, signifying a huge shift in OnePlus’ “Never Settle” motto. All hopes are now on the OnePlus 10 Pro, which will likely debut next week. Recent reports claim that the vanilla OnePlus 10 may not launch alongside the Pro variant. It’s unconventional to release just a Pro version without an entry-level model, but OnePlus may have its reasons for such a move. Other reports claim that the OnePlus 10 Pro will be limited to China when it launches in January 2022. The speculation stems from the fact that the company has only discussed the new flagship on Weibo so far. With not a lot of time left for the unveiling of the new flagship, we expect to get a better idea over the coming days.
