A source on Reddit confirmed the news (via), with some users already receiving reminder emails from Google. The company’s support page says that users will receive a notification seven days before 2SV is automatically enabled. If a user doesn’t have any alternate verification method such as SMS codes or Google Authenticator, Google will enable standard 2SV on their account. This will require users to confirm their authentication on another device....

First spotted by 9to5Google, the latest beta version (v13.19) of the Google app for Android brings a key change to Google Lens on tablets. The visual search tool now supports landscape orientation on larger screens. Earlier, it worked only in portrait orientation on all Android devices, including tablets and foldables. According to the new report, Google Lens now has a widescreen UI when used in landscape orientation on tablets. The UI elements are spaced out and all filters fit on the screen when in the live viewfinder....

“We hope that making noise cancellation available to all meeting attendees will help improve the quality of meetings by limiting background noise distractions,” Google said in a blog post. Google Meet first gained the noise cancellation feature back in June 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic had forced everyone indoors. A little “archive” icon shows up and the conversation flies off the screen in no time. This gesture works in either direction, i. e. both left to right and right to left. If you’re a Google Pay user, you should see a new banner that says “Set up your Google Pay balance for contactless payments and more” under the “Balance” section in the app. Tapping it will take you through the setup process, including a few terms & conditions pages. The app will then require you to set a PIN for the virtual card and you’re all set. The virtual Google Pay Balance Card is now ready for use....

Maps Google announced it will launch a new visual search experience called Live View. This feature will roll out to Google Maps on Android and iOS starting next week for select cities such as London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo. In the blog post, Google said, “Say you’re visiting New York with plans to knock out your holiday shopping and catch up with friends. Because most Wear OS watches will be stuck on older software. Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch mind you, would be the first device to come with Wear OS 3.1. Should the information be accurate. And if it is, then it shouldn’t be surprising. Since Google does the same thing with its Pixel phones and launches a new version of Android alongside them. The Pixel Watch will come with Wear OS 3....

Android Police reports (via 9to5Google) that the new search history function on Translate is currently available for all users. Users will see a prompt saying “Back up your translation history,” with additional options such as “Manage history” and “use Translate without an account” for those unwilling to keep things backed up on the cloud. It’s worth noting that syncing translation history won’t affect the locally stored translation data on the user’s device....

Surfshark also put out its data sensitivity index detailing the types of data each ride-sharing app collects. Globally recognized app, Uber, made it to number three by collecting 22 of the 32 data points available (as defined by the Apple App Store).
