Soft-touch glass won’t be making a comeback with the Pixel 7 & 7 Pro
Many people hoped Google will do it, as it was available on the Pixel 3 and 4 series. That is essentially a matte glass finish, for all those of you who hate reflective, glossy glass on your phones. Don’t think the glass is actually soft, as it’s not, of course. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro delivered a glossy design to the back, which was the first for the Pixel lineup. Based on the comments, at least, people much prefer matte black finishes. So, it’s a shame Google won’t be bringing that design back. The Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are coming in the Fall. Google showed off both smartphones at Google I/O 2022 two days ago. Well, showed off may be the wrong term, as the company only showed us a couple of renders of the two phones. So, it’s more of a teaser.
Google did not show us the front side of the Pixel 7 series devices
Google did show us only the back side of both phones, along with partial sides. It did not reveal the front side, but chances are that both devices will have thin bezels, and a centered display camera hole. The design language will be similar as on the Pixel 6 series, with one notable difference. The camera visor on the back will be covered by metal, as the metal from the frame will extend to the camera visor. That was not the case with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, as the camera visor was covered by glass, and it was black on all variants. That won’t be the case on the Pixel 7 series. The camera visor will be the same color as the frame, save for the camera sensors themselves, of course. Google also confirmed that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be fueled by the 2nd-gen Google Tensor SoC. That’s basically everything we know. Well, Android 13 will come pre-installed on both phones, of course.
