For comparison, the Xbox Series X has supported VRR since launch. With the feature now arriving on the PS5, users should be able to experience smoother gameplay. VRR is designed to sync the framerate of your game with your TV or monitor. Which is supposed to help reduce noticeable decreases in framerate as well as other graphical artifacts like screen tearing. Of course, you’ll need a TV or monitor that supports VRR as well as an HDMI 2.1 cable.

VRR will launch for the PS5 this week with support for these games coming soon

VRR may be arriving for the PS5 this week but players will still need to wait for games to support the feature. Luckily, Sony says that in the coming weeks a number of games will get patches that enable it. The list is a pretty reasonable start, containing some of the console’s biggest releases. This includes Call Of Duty: Vanguard, Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Destiny 2, and Deathloop just to name a few. If you’re interested in the full list, there’s 15 games in total. Excluding the ones already mentioned, VRR support will also be arriving soon for Astro’s Playroom, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, DIRT 5, Godfall, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil Village, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and Tribes Of Midgard.

The VRR update will arrive over the next few days

According to Sony, the update that enables VRR will arrive for the console over the next few days. Some console owners may see it pop up today and others may not see it until later in the week. If you want to check, you can find the feature under the Video and Output options in the Screen and Video menu within the system settings.
