Samsung is ending software support for the Galaxy S9 & S9 Plus
Samsung kept its promise, but it has now removed both devices from its security updates page. Prior to that, they were downgraded to a quarterly update schedule. That is as per usual for Samsung, as that’s something it does for phones that are in the final year of software support. Both devices did get the March 2022 security update, and that was the last one they will receive. Well, if something unexpected happens, of course. Both of those devices are still on Android 10, by the way, and they’re running Samsung’s One UI 2.5. So, they’re two major Android releases behind. Many of you probably already moved on from the two devices, but for those of you who have not, it may be the time to do so. If you’re into tinkering with your phones further, however, it’s possible to flash both Android 11 and 12 on them, though unofficially, of course. Many of you probably won’t be into that, and that is perfectly understandable.
You can take advantage of trade-in discounts if you’re planning to upgrade
You can always take advantage of Samsung’s trade-in discounts, and get a brand new flagship from the company. Samsung is offering trade-in discounts between $270 and $300 in case you opt to get the Galaxy S22 Ultra. These two phones arrived in February 2018, and they both shipped with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. They both included QHD+ displays, and the Snapdragon 845 / Exynos 9810 SoC. 15W charging was supported, along with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Both devices had really great specs at the time, and they were one of the best-looking phones around. Their design still holds up, to a degree, which is a testament to Samsung.
