Anyways, there’s always a thought process behind the design of a new product. In a new post on Samsung Newsroom, the company has explained why it went about two different design languages for the Galaxy S22 trio.
It all begins with originality
Samsung says its Galaxy S series has always been about smoothness and simplicity when it comes to design. The devices sport a flat design with a symmetrical front and back. The all-new Galaxy S22 series builds on this idea for an essence of originality. But, as you might expect, only the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ truly adopt this originality, Samsung suggests. According to the company, the camera layout on these two devices is equidistant from their body’s horizontal and vertical edges. Their Contour Cut camera design, which features “analogous colors in their metal camera housings and bodies,” makes for a unique design identity that we will see in the future Galaxy S series devices as well.
But why did Samsung choose to design the Galaxy S22 Ultra differently? Well, it seems this has to do with it discontinuing the Galaxy Note series. Note phones had created a fanbase of their own over the years. Samsung wants to cater to their expectations with a phone that is reminiscent of the Note devices in every sense bar the name. However, the company has different reasoning when it comes to the camera design for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. A larger main camera on this phone (1/1.33-inch vs. 1/1.56-inch on the other two models) means the lens protrudes out more from the body. To compensate for this, Samsung optimized the design such that it creates “the impression that the camera is floating above the device’s body.”
Galaxy S22 series comes in classy colors
Coming to the colors, Samsung offers the Galaxy S22 series Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, Pink Gold, and Burgundy, with some color variants exclusive to select models. The company says these colors give the devices a classic yet trendy look. “The refined Phantom Black hue showcases the Galaxy S series’ premium value, while the pure Phantom White complements the reflection of the metal body, projecting a message of hope and positivity. Green reflects the current times and encompasses a variety of tastes, while Burgundy accentuates the premium value and the modern and unique feel of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. A double layer nano coating adds rich tone and texture to the Pink Gold edition, revealing a variety of colors that go beyond the limits of a standard pink,” Samsung explains. Samsung also offers numerous case options for each model, all in multiple colors. So users have a lot of ways to customize the look of their device.
Lastly, Samsung talks about the sustainability measures implemented on the Galaxy S22 series. The neatly designed packaging for the phones is made of 100 percent recycled paper and produced in an eco-conscious manner. The company has also reduced the size and volume of the packaging material and accessories. Samsung had recently revealed that certain components used in the new Galaxy flagships are made of repurposed fishing nets that were discarded deep in the ocean.
