The Korean brand hasn’t talked much about eSIM support on the Galaxy S22 trio on its website. But the folks over at XDA Developers have confirmed that they can add an eSIM to their Galaxy S22 Ultra. And presumably, the vanilla Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ as well. The device tested was an unlocked variant of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The publication did not confirm the presence of eSIM functionality on carrier-locked variants. However, since the carrier variants of the Galaxy S21 series recently received eSIM support with the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update, we presume the carrier variants of the Galaxy S22 trio do as well. The new Samsung flagships boot One UI 4.0 from day one.

US-bound Galaxy S22 phones offer dual SIM functionality with eSIM

Smartphones in most global markets come with dual physical SIM support, with the US being one of the very few exceptions. Devices here only accommodate one physical SIM. Worse yet, the country has been slow to adopt eSIM technology as well. While eSIM is prevalent in many countries around the world, not many devices in the US support the feature. It’s changing now though. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series launched with a single physical SIM slot in the US last year. But the company added eSIM support with the Android 12 update a couple of months back. This allowed users to use two networks simultaneously, which opens up several possibilities. They don’t need to carry around two phones just because they are subscribed to two carriers. Now, with the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung is enabling eSIM support out of the box. This is a handy feature to have on your phone. Of course, for those who don’t find the eSIM technology usable, it won’t harm you either. Samsung has high hopes for the Galaxy S22 series to do well in the market. The devices have been received well so far but it’s still very early to say for sure. We found the Galaxy S22 Ultra — which many see as the smartphone to beat this year — worthy of that title in our review. Stay tuned for Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ reviews.
