As expected, the highest-end Galaxy S22 model will feature a 108-megapixel primary camera. It’s reportedly an improved version of the ISOCELL HM3 sensor found in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The 1/1.33-inch sensor has 0.8μm-sized pixels, an F/1.8 aperture, and an 85-degree field of view (FOV). It should offer phase detection autofocus (PDAF), Laser AF (autofocus), and OIS (optical image stabilization). The ultrawide lens is also unchanged from the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Meaning, it’s a 1/2.55-inch 12-megapixel sensor with 1.4μm-sized pixels and an F/2.2 aperture. It offers a 120-degree FOV. The ultrawide lens should also offer dual pixel PDAF. Well, we’ve already heard all this. But where things get interesting are the telephoto zoom cameras. There were reports that Samsung will switch to a 12-megapixel sensor for the zoom cameras in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. But Ice Universe claims otherwise. The company will reportedly stick to 10-megapixel sensors. However, these aren’t the same telephoto cameras found in the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung is using a new and smaller 1/3.52-inch Sony sensor for both telephoto zoom cameras (3X and 10X). This sensor has smaller, 1.12μm-sized pixels. The 10X camera has an aperture of F/4.9 and a FOV of 11 degrees. The 3X camera, meanwhile, has an F/2.4 aperture and a 36-degree FOV. We are expecting dual-pixel PDAF and OIS with both zoom cameras. The source is claiming “100% accuracy” of this information. But we still advise taking these kinds of leaks and rumors with a pinch of salt.
Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event should bring the Galaxy S22 series
Samsung‘s last Galaxy Unpacked event was a bummer. The “Unpacked” branding had become synonym with new product launches over time but the most recent event, which took place last week, had nothing new to show. It has lowered expectations for future Unpacked events. However, the next Galaxy Unpacked should be a big one, where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22 series. The event could take place sometime in January next year. Some reports are also suggesting a February launch for the phones due to the chip shortage issue and we can’t entirely rule out that possibility either.
