Expert RAW is a Samsung-made camera app for flagship Galaxy smartphones. Perhaps only the highest-specced flagships, as the likes of Flip series foldables and vanilla and Plus models of most Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series don’t support it. The Galaxy S21 Ultra got it first back in November 2021. Samsung has since released the app for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 4. Three more devices are picking support for it today. Since these phones have different image sensors and processors, the performance may vary. As noted by the Samsung community moderator in today’s announcement, Expert RAW image processing time and quality on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Fold 2 may not be at the same level as the newer models. This is due to the hardware limitations of these phones. But you’ll still get access to a lot of new camera features with this app.

Samsung releases Expert RAW for Galaxy S20 Ultra and a couple of other models

Expert RAW requires high-end hardware and unlocks new capabilities that aren’t available through the default camera app that is installed on Galaxy smartphones out of the box. It gives you granular control over shooting parameters such as shutter speed, exposure, ISO, white balance, and more. You can adjust the parameters as per your liking to get the desired results. Expert RAW also lets you save photos in RAW format so you can easily apply effects later. If you want to save storage, you have the option to save JPEG images too. Since the initial release about a year ago, Samsung has pushed multiple updates to Expert RAW, adding new features and improving overall image quality with software optimizations. The most recent update came last month. It brought custom presets, which let you create and save presets with custom shooting parameters and quickly apply them to your next shot. The update also improved low-light photography on Expert RAW. We expect Samsung to push more updates for the app in the future and will keep you posted accordingly.
