Every year, Samsung collaborates with different musicians to refresh its iconic ringtone while keeping the core of the music unchanged. The Korean brand teamed up with LA-based musician Kiefer Shackelford for that job this year. Known for his “cross-genre, hip-hop-influenced aesthetic and jazzy electronic sound,” the latest version of Over the Horizon features Shackelford’s signatory music style. Over the Horizon 2022 is themed “New World,” Samsung says. It reflects the ever-changing world in this post-pandemic era. Shackelford has reimagined the new world through jazztronica music. The “heartfelt illustrations” in the said animated film, meanwhile, evoke nostalgia for a time when things were different. When there was no fear of a global health crisis and people could interact and smile freely. These illustrations are made by Grammy-nominated artist and producer Phil Beaudreau. In the three-minute-long animated film for the 2022 version of Samsung’s iconic Over the Horizon ringtone, we can see illustrations of people running through parks, dribbling basketballs, connecting freely and publicly, and sharing a laugh together. Alas, all this is no longer the norm.
2022 version of Samsung’s Over the Horizon ringtone is here with some jazztronica and a nostalgic animated film
Samsung’s “Over the Horizon” ringtone has been around for more than ten years now. The company releases a new version of it every year. The release usually coincides with its first flagship smartphone launch of the year. This year is no different. Shortly after the Galaxy S22 launch, we have a new version of Over the Horizon. To spice things up, the Korean brand has also made an animated film for the 2022 rendition of the ringtone. This is the very first time the ringtone has got a film of its own. “Over the Horizon was a genuinely enjoyable experience for me,” said Shackelford. “A great roster of musicians has been a part of the Samsung Galaxy signature ringtone, which gave me the impression that Samsung is looking for some solid music, not just any other ringtone.
