The Galaxy S22 series is getting telephoto camera support in hyperlapse mode
To begin with, Samsung is adding support for the 3X telephoto camera when shooting hyperlapse videos. The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra all feature a 10MP telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom. The latter also features a 10X telephoto camera, but it seemingly doesn’t support hyperlapse videos. However, Samsung says it is developing “Astronomical Hyperlapse” for the phones. The devices are also getting several functional improvements for QR Scanner in camera. Samsung is making the scanning area bigger for easier and faster recognition. Additionally, the phones can now detect and scan QR codes within a recognized document. Earlier, if you tried scanning a code present in a document and the camera detects the document ahead of the code, you couldn’t scan the code. You needed to relaunch the scanner focusing on the QR code. Another notable improvement to QR Scanner fixes a bug where you couldn’t re-scan a code once you dismiss the first scan. The upcoming camera update will allow you to scan the same code again. The Galaxy S22 trio will also get some software optimizations for memory and AI (artificial intelligence) engine in various shooting modes, including Photo, Night, and Video. Other performance optimizations will allow for improved HDR (high dynamic range) and color accuracy in pictures. This should improve the overall quality of the photos. Videos are getting some software optimizations too, enabling improved footage. A couple of months back, Samsung rolled out an update to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, improving the natural sharpness and contrast of the primary camera in Photo mode. These improvements are now making it into ultrawide and telephoto cameras. The company is also extending support to Portrait and Pro shooting modes. Lastly, Night Mode pictures are getting color and brightness improvements.
Samsung has more in the pipeline
Apart from the Astronomical Hyperlapse feature mentioned above, Samsung has more major camera updates planned for the Galaxy S22 series. Among those are AI-powered improvements for low-light photography. The company doesn’t provide an expected timeframe for these features but we expect them to arrive in a few months. Meanwhile, the latest update also brings some functional improvements to messages. Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra users in South Korea should be getting this update with firmware version S90*NKSU2AVHB. Users in other regions can also look forward to it.
