Samsung undergo corporate restructuring last year that saw it merge some of its business divisions. TM Roh took over as the head of its smartphone business that merged consumer electronics. But according to the Korean media, some shareholders are not convinced that Roh is the right person to lead the smartphone division. They are now seeking another leadership reshuffle following the recent turn of events. Speaking of recent events, a lot had happened at Samsung over the past few weeks. It losing a manufacturing contract from Qualcomm not only caused a financial loss but also raised concerns of potential fraud by top-level executives. The company has launched an internal investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the Korean firm has been caught using its Game optimization Service to limit the performance of many popular apps, including non-game ones, in the name of improved thermal and battery performances. All the while, lying about this throttling in benchmark results. Popular benchmark platform has permanently banned the Galaxy S22 trio and several other Galaxy phones over this. Samsung also recently suffered a major data breach. It compromised 190GB of internal data of the company, as well as some of its clients such as Qualcomm. All these events have added up and shareholders are now demanding a leadership change at the company.
Samsung could announce something at its upcoming shareholders’ meeting
Samsung is scheduled to hold its annual general shareholder’s meeting on March 16. The company could have something to say about its leadership and recent turn of events at this conference. It is reportedly running an online poll where its shareholders can vote for a leadership change ahead of the upcoming meeting. Reports coming out from South Korea don’t suggest things are going well for TM Roh. Several shareholders have voted against him. If Roh indeed has to concede his position as the head of Samsung’s mobile business, it will be interesting to see who takes over. We will keep you posted.
