In addition to confirming that this phone is running on Qualcomm’s latest chip, we’re also learning about the CPU clock speed. The primary core (Cortex-X2) offers a clock speed of 3.0 GHz, whereas the three Cortex-A710 cores run at 2.5 GHz. Lastly, the remaining four Cortex-A510 cores have a clock speed of 1.79 GHz. It’s worth noting that this is consistent with what we’ve learned from older leaks. The leak was first spotted by SparrowNews (via) on social media platform Weibo. However, the original post has since been deleted. The chipset also includes the new Adreno 730 GPU, though its capabilities are unknown at this point. Rumors suggest the new GPU will offer a significant performance upgrade over the Adreno 660. In addition to the powerful CPU cores and the all-new GPU, the Snapdragon 898 will also feature the Snapdragon X65 5G chip. However, this isn’t mentioned in this leak.
Snapdragon 898 will face stiff competition from the MediaTek Dimensity 2000
So which phone is this? Well, this is where information is scarce right now. One theory is that it could be the Xiaomi 12, which will break cover soon. It’s also likely that this is a Vivo phone that recently made an appearance on Geekbench. As is the case with early leaks, there are plenty of theories. However, we’re going to wait for official confirmation before jumping to conclusions. The Snapdragon 898 chipset will also make its way to the Samsung Galaxy S22 and a number of flagships in 2022. But unlike in the years past, Qualcomm will have to contend with MediaTek’s Dimensity 2000 chip which has already made waves in the industry. A recent specs comparison between the two chipsets revealed that they are fairly close in terms of performance. This could spell trouble for Qualcomm, which has enjoyed dominance in the industry with its mobile SoCs. The Dimensity 2000 will utilize TSMC’s 4nm architecture, whereas the Snapdragon 898 will use Samsung’s 4nm node.
