One of Android Police’s readers has had two Pixel 5a devices shipped his way already, from Google Fi. He’s supposed to get them today, before the release date for the Pixel 5a.

Some Pixel 5a pre-orders are shipping early, check your Google Fi tracking number

That being said, if you bought your device through Google Fi, you may want to check the tracking information. Who knows, maybe your unit shipped ahead of time as well. All of this is not exactly surprising. Google did the same thing with previous Pixel smartphones the Pixel 3, 4, and 4a. All of those phones got into the hands of buyers ahead of time… well, some units. The Pixel 5a is Google’s latest smartphone. The company’s new mid-ranger that is supposed to replace the Pixel 4a 5G, and even the Pixel 5 to a degree. It comes with the same SoC as those two phones, and it has a lot in common with the Pixel 4a 5G. The Pixel 5a does come with a considerably larger battery than its predecessor. That does result in a lot better battery life, which you’ll surely appreciate. The phone also comes with more premium build materials than its predecessor.

The Pixel 5a is an iterative update over the Pixel 4a 5G

It retains the same look, for the most part, and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The internals are not changed much, it still has a fullHD+ panel with a 60Hz refresh rate, same SoC, and so on. The Pixel 5a is Google’s latest smartphone, but many people are waiting for the Pixel 6 series, for more than one reason. The Pixel 6 represents the return of premium phones to Google’s lineup. On top of that, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will be the first phone to utilize Google’s very own chip, the Google Tensor. They’ll also feature a new main camera sensor. That is exciting because Google has been recycling the same sensor for years, since the Pixel 2. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are coming this fall.
