One very important thing to know is that the price of Sony’s newest console isn’t going up everywhere. As noted, if you’re in the US, you have nothing to worry about. The PS5 Disc Edition will remain $499.99 and the Digital Edition will remain $399.99. However, Europe, the UK, Japan, China, Australia, Mexico, and Canada will all end up paying more. As well parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. A fact that’s likely a little more frustrating for those who have had a hard time getting one since the console launched back in 2020.

The PS5 price increase takes effect immediately

Sony says these prices are effective immediately and the announcement was made on August 25. Which means in the regions where the prices are going up, you should the new prices listed as of today. Price changes are slightly different depending on the region too. In the UK for example, the PS5 Disc and Digital Editions are each going up by £30. While in Europe the price of each version of the console is going up by €50. In Japan the prices are increasing by ¥10,500. Also worth noting is that Japan is the only location where prices aren’t going up as of August 25. Instead, console prices will remain the same there until September 15. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan maintains that the company is continuing to try and improve the supply chain issues that have kept the PS5 off shelves outside of low restocks. Noting that the company’s top priority is to improve the supply situation so that more gamers can “experience what the PS5 has to offer and what’s still to come.” Of course that probably doesn’t help those who will now have to pay more money for the console once they have another chance to buy one. Especially given that games for the PS5 were already a point of contention due their higher prices.
