January Android 12 security patch is rolling out to supported Pixel phones, but not the Pixel 6 & 6 Pro
Needless to say, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have been having quite a few bugs. They’ve been there since launch, and as Google patched those up, new ones appeared. The company was forced to pause the December security update for the two phones because of it. That’s probably why they’ll be getting a special update later on. So, the Android 12 January security patch is rolling out to select phones: Pixel 3a, 4, 4a, 4a 5G, 5, and 5a. Those are all Pixel smartphones that are currently supported by Google. Google notes that there are 16 issues resolved in the Android 12 security patch. The fixed vulnerabilities range from high to critical, it is noted, and the most serious one was related to the media framework and a remote tracker possibly executing arbitrary code. Needless to say, there are no new features included here. As per usual, a security update is just a security update, and its goal is to make your phone more secure, that’s it.
The update is rolling out, but it may take a while for it to get to you
This update is rolling out as we speak, all over the globe, it’s not regional. Do note that this is a staged rollout we’re looking at. That’s something we’re already used to when it comes to updates, and it means that the update may not be available straight away. You may have to wait a couple of days. If you’re unwilling to do that, well, you can install it yourself, manually. Both factory images and OTAs are now available to grab, if you want. Both of those files have been posted for every single supported Pixel phone that is getting the update.
