Chief among them being able to decide which model is right for you. That is assuming you’re interested in getting one and aren’t sure which one to pick. The good news is that most of the differences between the two models is mostly aesthetics. Now we say most because there are a couple of functional differences, and they are big ones. So let’s break it all down.

Battery life is one of the main differences between the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

Let’s kick things off with the battery life. This is perhaps the biggest difference between the two watch models. And this is an important one to focus on because it will directly impact how long you’re able to use the watch on a single charge. The standard Galaxy Watch 5 has a 410mAh battery in the 44mm size and a 284mAh battery in the 40mm size. Both are rated at up to 50 hours of use. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro on the other hand comes with a 590mAh battery and is rated for up to 80 hours of use on a single charge. That’s an extra 30 hours of time. Which gives you a little more than one extra day before you need to slap it back on the charger. Of course, your own battery life experiences with either watch depends on how you use them. Either way though, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will offer more battery life. So if you want something that lasts longer, the Pro is the clear choice.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is more durable

Samsung designed the Pro model to be a more durable watch than its standard counterpart. It has a stronger sapphire crystal glass top layer over the display, for one. While both watches use sapphire crystal glass, Samsung confirms that the glass on the Pro model is 2x stronger than the glass on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Meanwhile the sapphire crystal glass on the Galaxy Watch 5 is only 1.6x stronger than the glass on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro was designed to be a more outdoor-friendly smartwatch. Targeting consumers who want something that can be their go-to companion on adventures like rock climbing, hikes, runs and other similar activities. In addition to the stronger glass, the Pro also uses a Titanium casing for the watch body. This is as opposed to the Aluminum used on the Galaxy Watch 5 variant. Across the board, the Pro will simply stand up to more punishment.

The cost

The most obvious difference for most people is going to be the price. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will cost more than the non-pro model. By quite a bit. The Pro starts at $449.99, which gets you the Bluetooth model. Or you can step it up to LTE for $499.99. By comparison, the Galaxy Watch 5 starts at $279.99 for the Bluetooth model, or $329.99 for the LTE model. This is where most people will want to start weighing out what they want from the watch. Do you want LTE capabilities but don’t necessarily care about the added durability and longer battery life? Then go with the LTE version of the Galaxy Watch 5. You’ll spend more than a $100 less and get just about all of the same functions.

Size is a factor

Another one of the obvious differences between the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is the size. The former comes in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm. While the latter only comes in one size, 45mm. If you prefer smaller watches, then you’ll either have to stick with the Galaxy Watch 5 or deal with a bigger watch to get the Pro features. That may not sit well with some consumers, and we get it. But there’s nothing to be done about it unfortunately.

Different styles

You’ll get more style options with the Galaxy Watch 5. Because it comes in multiple colors – Sapphire, Silver, Graphite, and Pink Gold. Whereas the Pro model only comes in two – Black and Gray. There’s also the differences between the bands. The non-pro model has a slightly different sport band that uses a d-link-style clasp. The Pro on other hand uses a new D-Buckle sport band that Samsung says is more rugged yet still comfortable to wear. And of course, there’s different colors for those too. Sapphire, White, Graphite, Bora Purple, and Pink Gold for the Galaxy Watch 5, and Black and Gray for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. With all of that said, Samsung will certainly end up releasing new colors and styles for both models. At launch though, this is what you’ll get without buying anything additional. As these are the color and style combinations that come in the box with each watch respectively. Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
