Real-world devices often pop up in shows and movies, and the eagle-eyed among can catch them. Notably, old Commodore computers would show up in the background of classic movies and shows as background props. These can be because they fit the aesthetic, or the manufacturer wants to put their product in front of more eyes.
The Galaxy Z Flip3 appears in Star Trek Picard
It seems that foldables phones will still be popular in the future, and Samsung will still lead the pack. In a recent episode of Star Trek Picard, we see a couple of shots of characters with interesting-looking communication devices. At first glance, they look like typical Sci-Fi communicators, but once you look closer, you’ll see what makes them interesting. Looking closely at the pictures, we see that these devices are basically Galaxy Z Flip devices. They’re extremely thick devices that almost look like the Energizer P18K. However, they actually flip to fold shut. One shot shows the phone’s display bending to fold shut just like with a Galaxy Z Flip3. If that’s not enough of a hint, another shot shows a closeup of the phone, and you can see that it’s just a Z Flip 3 embedded into a prop. There’s no telling why the companies did this. It could have been a marketing stunt or it could have just been easier than building a prop with a screen. Seeing the Galaxy Z Flip3 in Star Trek Picard might not be the biggest surprise, as the Galaxy Z Fold3 also played a role in an episode of the same show. Either the producers of the show are fans of Samsung, or the executives at Samsung are big fans of Star Trek.
