Android 13 launched back in August this year, and it had significantly fewer bugs than Android 12. However, users, such as Artem Russakovskii reported that when they accessed Google Assistant, it would be in dark mode. What’s significant about this is that there’s no way to change it back to light mode. The Assistant would be in dark mode regardless of what theme your phone was set to. So, people thought it was a bug.

The Google Assistant dark mode bug is actually not above

While people thought that this was a software issue, it turns out that this was Google’s intention. A Googler posted that this is a feature and that it was marked as “won’t fix (intended behavior)”. So, Google Assistant opens in dark mode automatically. Why did the company do this? Well, Google stated that this was to “offer a more helpful visual experience across all your devices, including Pixel Watch and Google TV,” the company went on to say that “when you engage with the Assistant on mobile, light mode [will no longer be] available.” This is a bummer, as not everyone likes dark mode. There are people who like light mode, but it seems that they have been left in the dust. We’re not sure if this is going to be a permanent change, or if Google will keep this only for the near future. In all honesty, whether Google Assistant is in light or dark mode isn’t the biggest deal. Most people only use the Assistant every once in a while. Also, the Assistant isn’t really on the screen for all that long. However, there is one small scenario where dark mode on the Assistant can be troublesome. People sometimes tend to use the “Hey Google” hotword to have their screens power on to light up a dark room. Now, it’s a bit less effective.
