This news comes right after the announcement that the company is launching a new budget-friendly soundbar. Named the Sonos Ray, this speaker lacks a lot of the features that are present in the more expensive speakers. Regardless, it should be a nice entry into the Sonos soundbar ecosystem. It will launch within the next couple of weeks.
Now, Sonos is making its own voice assistant
It seems that The Verge was a fly on the wall at Sonos’ headquarters, as this news comes exclusively from that publication. According to the report, Sonos is set to unveil its homegrown voice assistant, dubbed “Sonos Voice”, next month to the US market. An international release is set to follow.
How will this assistant be different?
There’s one major reason why Sonos Voice will be a good assistant. One complaint that people have about Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri is the fact that they may send your data back to the company. Data, like audio recordings, could be on the companies’ servers, but it looks like Sonos Voice will be different. According to the report, Sonos Voice won’t send off your data to the company. That will give a lot of people peace of mind while using it. We know that companies typically send off the data to help hone and refine the assistant’s accuracy (well, among other things). We’re not sure just how Sonos Voice will perform just yet, so we’ll need to wait and see how it goes when it launches in June.
