The publication has shared a screenshot that reveals that Communities will sit to the left of the Chats tab in WhatsApp for Android. The spot is currently occupied by a camera shortcut. It’s unclear whether the company plans to find a new home for the camera or if it will be removed altogether. When you’re in the Communities tab, a “New community” button on the top will let you create a new community, of course. All of your communities, including those you have created and those you were added to, will be listed below. The new report doesn’t reveal much about the functionality of Communities on WhatsApp. But as you can see in the screenshot attached below, Communities will bring together all related groups. Perhaps we are getting Discord servers of sorts. According to the new report, Communities will also provide users with “special admin tools” to help them manage their groups better. Unfortunately, we have no timeframe as to when this feature will roll out publicly. Hopefully, it’s not too far off now. We expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp is further expanding its offerings
WhatsApp debuted as an instant messaging app and for years, remained so. But in recent years, the Meta-owned platform has grown into much more than that. It now offers business and payment services in several parts of the world. With Communities, the company is now planning to further expand its offerings. WhatsApp is simultaneously improving its messaging services as well. It regularly updates the app with new features. A recent update blocked media auto-download in conversations with disappearing messages turned on, better-protecting users’ privacy. There are also several more new features in the pipeline. A polling feature will let users create polls in groups. WhatsApp is also adding new drawing tools, including a couple of additional pencil tips and a blur tool. All of these new features should roll out to users in the coming months. We will keep you posted.
