According to the report, Google is asking the preview program members to participate in a survey regarding this upcoming feature. The company hopes this survey would help the Maps development team on best implementing the feature. Once live, Google Maps will reportedly show the total number of toll booths, including tolls on roads, bridges, and more, on a route along with the total payable price estimate. If there are multiple routes available for a journey, Maps will show this information for each of them before users select a route. This will help users choose the best route for their trip, considering the toll costs as well as total time. Google Maps already shows if a road has a toll booth. In fact, it also shows how many toll booths are there in your selected navigation route. However, it lacked information about the exact toll prices all this while. It appears we are finally about to get that as well.

Waze can already show how much your tolls will cost for a navigation route

If you’ve used the Waze navigation app, you know this feature is already available there. Perhaps it’s been there for more than two years now. So Google Maps is long due to adding a similar capability and, thankfully, it appears to be on its way. Interestingly, Waze is also a Google-owned navigation app. The Moutain View company acquired Waze from its Israeli developers in June 2013. It now operates as a Google subsidiary, competing against the company’s own Google Maps. While this may not make much sense for some people, it’s the reality. Both apps regularly pick up new features to improve the user experience. But some features are exclusive to either platform, like Waze’s ability to show the total cost of tolls on a route. Google Maps is finally set to get this ability, it seems. That said, it’s unclear when this feature will roll out. It is not even available in the preview program yet. Hopefully, the Maps team is already on it and we’ll see the feature go live soon. We will let you know as and when more information emerges.
