TSMC is said to manufacture next-gen SoCs from Qualcomm & MediaTek

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 does come with better performance, thermals, and power consumption, despite the fact it’s not a full-scale upgrade. Qualcomm decided to switch over to TSMC for next-gen chips as well, and it seems like TSMC will manufacture MediaTek processors as well. A report by Digital Chat Station claims that TSMC will manufacture four high-profile chips from the two companies. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 will be handled by TSMC. On the flip side, the MediaTek Dimensity 9100 and Dimensity 8200 will also be manufactured by TSMC. Those are basically the highest-profile chips from the two companies. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the upcoming flagship processor. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, on the other hand, will lead the charge in the mid-range department. The same goes for the two MediaTek chips, with the Dimensity 9100 being the flagship model.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be announced before the end of the year

Those chips are expected to appear in smartphones next year. The very first Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphone(s) could end up being announced by the end of 2022, though. We’re looking at Xiaomi first and foremost, as the company has a habit of doing that in December. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 will allegedly be an iterative update over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. What’s interesting is that we’ve seen the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 in only one smartphone thus far, the OPPO Reno 8 Pro. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 was manufactured by Samsung, though. It is also stated that the development of Qualcomm’s chips is faster than that of the MediaTek counterparts. So you can expect the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 to come to market sooner than their competitors from MediaTek.
