It’s easy to overlook how the number of tabs you have open can affect performance. Having a lot of tabs open can slow down your browser and make the whole experience sluggish. This makes sense, as internet tabs use up RAM. The more tabs you have open, the less RAM we have available for your system. This is why people recommend that you limit how many tabs you have open.
Vivaldi will actually close inactive tabs automatically
This feature was introduced in the latest Vivaldi update. The company made a post advertising Vivaldi version 5.5. When you dig into the app settings, you will see the Automatically Close Tabs button. When you tap on that option, you’ll see a window pop up with a few choices. You can choose to have the system automatically close your apps after one week, one month, or three months. You can disable the feature altogether by tapping the never option. The number of choices you have for time intervals is pretty limited, but those seem fair. Maybe one day, the company could let you choose a custom interval.
The update also brings a new welcome flow
If you are a newcomer to Vivaldi, you’ll see a new welcome flow to get you started. After you agree to the terms of service, you will have the option to either get started quickly or customize your initial settings. After that, you’ll have the option to place the tabs on the top or bottom of the screen, choose the tab style, choose a color scheme, adjust your privacy settings, and make Vivaldi your default browser.
