The Xiaomi 12 Ultra may launch in Q3 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+

This information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known Chinese tipster. He revealed that the Xiaomi LS2, with a model number 2206122SC, will launch with the Qualcomm SM8475. That suggests the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be included. The tipster also said that the launch timeframe for this smartphone is Q3 2022. Now, the Xiaomi L2S was referred to as the Xiaomi 12 Ultra earlier. It was spotted in the IMEI database. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra was actually expected to launch much sooner. It was expected to launch alongside the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro globally. Both of those phones already launched in China, but not globally, not yet. They’re expected to launch in the near future, though, and if this rumor is to be believed, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra won’t accompany them. It will launch in the third quarter of the year with a new chip.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is expected to be manufactured under TSMC’s 4m process, instead of Samsung’s 4nm node. That is the only difference hinted at thus far. Why is the new process significant, though? Well, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is a great SoC, but it does heat up quite a bit. TSMC’s 4nm process is expected to be a bit better when it comes to that. It is expected to bring better thermals, and better power efficiency in comparison. Nothing has been confirmed nor proven just yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. It is a bit disappointing the Xiaomi 12 Ultra won’t be a part of the global Xiaomi 12 series launch. Well, at least if this rumor is to be believed, it won’t, but we’ll see.
