This shouldn’t be the biggest shocker, as Twitter announced this a couple of months back. The company is testing this feature on members of its premium service. This wouldn’t be as much of a letdown if the service didn’t see a recent price hike. Twitter Blue was previously $2.99/month, but it recently jumped to $4.99/month.

Twitter is testing the edit tweet feature

If you’re a Twitter Blue user, and you haven’t been turned away by the price increase, then you should be able to edit your tweets relatively soon. According to a Twitter blog post, Twitter Blue users will gain the ability to edit their tweets in the coming weeks.

How will this work?

Not too long ago, we got some leaks showing us how this feature will work. When you post a tweet, you’ll have the ability to edit the contents of it after the fact. Twitter had an issue with giving people this power for a while, and this explains the long delay. You’ll be able to change the tweet but only for a limited amount of time. Originally, rumors pointed to people having a full hour to change the tweet, but the test only allows for 30 minutes. We’re not sure if that will change when the feature makes it out of testing. When you make the change to the tweet, just know that you’re not actually changing the tweet. What you’re doing is creating a separate version of the original tweet and editing that. This means that the original tweet will still exist on the platform, and the company will make it accessible. This way, people will see what the person originally typed in case they want to try and cover up a hot take that’s a little too hot! We’re not sure when Twitter will push this feature out to the public, but this is still a step in the right direction. Just be prepared to see a lot of tweets reading “This tweet was edited” in the meantime.
