The mood filters, such as Relax, Energize, Commute, Workout, and Focus, that appear on the top of the Home feed also see changes in line with the Material You design language. These buttons switch from pills to chips that are essentially rounded rectangles. Another notable visual change is how the More button next to playlists like Mixed for you, Listen again, and New releases now have a separate housing. It also gets a pill-shaped button. Earlier, the button was simply a text with no separate background. 9to5Googlee first reported the latest UI redesign for YouTube Music. As the publication notes, the bottom bar still doesn’t get a Material You makeover. The three buttons — Home, Explore, and Library (Upgrade too, if you aren’t subscribed) — are unchanged from the previous layout. Well, apart from the aforementioned three changes, the whole app retains YouTube’s existing design language. Perhaps it’s a work in progress and Google will make more UI overhauls on YouTube Music in the future.
YouTube Music got a makeover on tablets a few months back
This minor Material You makeover for YouTube Music on phones comes a few months after a major UI redesign for playlist and album views on tablets. It leverages the large screen of tablets with a two-column layout in landscape orientation. In portrait orientation, the changes brought a large, centered album art against a blurred background. A row of five buttons — download, add to playlist, play, share, and more (three-dot menu) — appeared below the album art. The tracklist below these buttons also gets minor changes. Google rolled out this tablet-specific YouTube Music redesign to phones for some users. But a wider rollout never came. Meanwhile, the company has now started rolling out another set of changes on phones.
