This integration between Shorts and YouTube Music is an extension of the existing Sound feature on the former. When watching Shorts, you can currently tap on the rounded square “Sound” button in the bottom-right corner of the screen — at the bottom end of the vertical action strip that features the like, dislike, and comment buttons — to pull up all Shorts featuring that song. This page now includes a Save button that lets you save that song to your YouTube Music playlist. A separate playlist called “Sounds from Shorts” is created for those tracks. In addition to this, the track is also saved on the main YouTube app. You can find it on the Library tab, under a new playlist with the same name. You can directly listen to the official music from there. A Shorts button within the playlist allows you to create a new Shorts video using that song. So this feature not only works as a way to discover music but also lets you save tracks to create Shorts later. TikTok already offers this ability and it’s no surprise YouTube is following suit. But the company is taking things up a notch by showing the saved tracks on YouTube Music too, so users can access them across platforms.
YouTube lets you save Shorts tracks to YouTube Music
While YouTube is known for long videos, it has also emerged as a crowd-puller in the short-videos space popularized by TikTok. The Google company leverage its existing user base to quickly rose through the ranks and become one of the biggest names in the short-form videos industry. Since music is a critical element of short videos, the company is now letting users save music for later use. And to ensure seamless cross-platform access, it is integrating Shorts music into YouTube Music. As noted by 9to5Google, screenshots shared by YouTube show the recently revamped playlists UI. First rolled out on tablets, this redesign made it into phones for some users in July this year. However, it has yet to show up for everyone globally. Maybe the company is now ready for a wider rollout of the redesigned UI for YouTube Music playlists. We will let you know when we have more information.
